The TJC Writing Lab

The TJC Writing Lab in J1108 is an on-campus facility whose goal is to assist students in receiving a quality education by providing a supervised tutoring environment. Our tutors assist students at all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming and paragraph development to grammar and documenting sources. We offer 30 minute, one-on-one tutorials to any TJC student, regardless of the type of written assignment or field of study.

What our tutors do:

• Help students understand the writing process
• Identify patterns of error to avoid recurring trouble spots
• Explain various grammatical rules
• Teach appropriate documentation skills
• Offer suggestions for revision
• Provide computer-based resources to help with written assignments (e.g., tutorials, TJC website, OWLs, etc.)

Our tutors will not:

• Write papers for students
• Predict grade outcomes
• Proofread without instruction
• Read handwritten papers
