DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: An interdisciplinary, multi-perspective assessment of cultural, philosophical and aesthetic factors critical to the formulation of the values that have shaped the historical development of the individual and society. This course may also be taken via the Internet. TEXTBOOK: Landmarks in Humanities, Fiero PURPOSE AND GOALS OF COURSE: By the end of the semester the student will be able to completely identify the forms, techniques, and content of some of the outstanding works and achievements of Western art, music, and literature, and will have satisfactorily completed all the listed learning objectives with a minimum of 70 percent competency level based on the completion of daily assignments and a comprehensive final examination not to exceed two hours. No make-up exams will be given for missed exams. Chapter exams will consist of questions based on the review questions and web search activities from the publisher’s web site, web search activities from in-class work, and slide identification. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: Web-search activities, videos, slides, assigned reading in the textbook, and lectures are the primary methods of instruction. METHODS OF EVALUATION: Examinations, attendance and participation in class-assigned activities, and a comprehensive final examination are the primary methods of evaluation.
After successful completion of the course, the student will be able to accomplish the following:

Attend class each time the class meets. 2. Be on time for class and remain for the entire period. 3. Students are inconsiderate of their classmates when they arrive late and leave early. 4. Refrain from talking while the teacher is lecturing. 5. Idle chattering and giggling are disruptive and disrespectful to the teacher and classmates. 6. Without prior approval from the instructor, do not use any electronic device in class. 7. These devices include cell-phones, beepers, walkmans with headphones, and other such items. 8. Be attentive and participate in class. ADA Statement: If a student has a disability that qualifies under the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and requires accommodations, he/she should contact ADA Student Coordinator Margaret Rapp for information on appropriate policies and procedures. Disabilities covered by ADA may include learning, psychiatric, physical disabilities, or chronic health disorders.
